Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco Advances Marin County’s Largest Affordable Homeownership Development.

SAN FRANCISO, CA (July 30, 2026) Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco (Habitat Greater San Francisco) has submitted updated plans to the City of Novato for its affordable homeownership community on Redwood Boulevard, marking a significant milestone toward creating Marin County’s largest 100 percent affordable homeownership development.

The project will include 50 single-family homes, creating permanent affordable homeownership opportunities for more than 200 low- and moderate-income residents. When completed, the project will be the largest affordable homeownership development in Habitat Greater San Francisco’s 37-year history and provide local families with the opportunity to build equity, stability and long-term financial security.

The project comes at a critical time as the median home price in Marin County exceeds $1.6 million, nearly double the median home price in the rest of California. In Novato, housing expenses exceed the national average by 82%.

“In Marin, a family can save for a decade and still be priced out of homeownership,” said Maureen Sedonaen, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco. “We see every day what changes when a family finally owns a home: better health outcomes, better grades for their kids, more time together, even shorter commutes. Those aren’t small things. They compound over a lifetime, and they’re the difference between a family just getting by and a family actually putting down roots. Fifty families are about to find that out firsthand because the city, the county and this whole community chose to make it possible.”

The Redwood Boulevard property was donated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, whose partnership helped make the project possible. Habitat has continued to work closely with the City of Novato, County of Marin, community partners and supporters to advance the vision for a permanently affordable neighborhood.
