Construction is underway on eight permanently affordable townhomes at 31 Wharf Road in downtown Bolinas. The project will provide much-needed homeownership opportunities for low-income, first-time homebuyer families in a community long strained by the lack of affordable housing.
Jim Feely, Vice President of Construction at Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, and Annie O’Connor, Executive Director of Bolinas Community Land Trust, marked a significant milestone, joining partners to officially break ground on a long-anticipated affordable housing development in downtown Bolinas. With excavation now underway and foundation work on the horizon, the development will ultimately deliver eight affordable homes, all located in the heart of downtown Bolinas.

All new Habitat Greater San Francisco homes are built with sustainability in mind. We produce new homes that are healthy, have low utility bills, are durable for future homeowners, and help reduce impact on the environment. Currently, all HGSF projects are GreenPoint Rated, reaching at least Gold level. To achieve this certification, a 3rd party inspector scores our homes on five categories, including energy and water conservation, indoor air quality, sustainable building materials, and community benefits such as proximity to public transportation.
Proposed sustainability features for HGSF projects typically include: rooftop solar panels with a goal to offset ≥75% of energy consumption, advanced insulation packages to reduce heating and cooling demands, an Energy Recovery Ventilation system that introduces constant fresh air into the home to ensure a healthy indoor air quality, low-emitting finishes that reduce pollutants in the home, durable materials that reduce long term replacement costs, LED lighting package to keep energy bills low, low-use water fixtures to help keep water utility bills low, and high performing windows.
All new HGSF homes are 100% electric, which eliminates the use of natural gas in the home, helping to reduce pollution, provide owners with better indoor air quality, encourage better health outcomes for the owners, and lower utility bills for future owners.
