What We DoHomeownership

Habitat Greater San Francisco creates homeownership opportunities that allow families to realize their potential and accomplish their dreams. Habitat families spend no more than 30% of household income on housing, which provides stability, security, and the chance to leave a legacy for the next generation.

Family Story

Habitat homeownership was the key to Jenn and Alec being able to stay in their long-term community they love. With the stability of homeownership, the family has been able to start saving for their children’s college fund.

The Habitat Model

The homeownership model at Habitat Greater San Francisco (Habitat GSF) is designed to enable Habitat GSF families to experience stability and build equity across generations:

  • Monthly housing payments are capped at 30% of income
  • Homebuyers put 0% down and pay 0% interest on their mortgage
  • Future homeowners put in up to 500 hours of “sweat equity” to help build their homes

Application Process

Habitat GSF has a straightforward, online application process that we use whenever a home is available. You can find out more about the application process, requirements and fill out the interest form below.
