“Looking ahead, we are embracing innovation to deliver on our mission. In a region where land is scarce, we are pioneering acquisition and renovation strategies to create more forever-affordable homes. These efforts ensure a strong pipeline of opportunities and financial resilience, so we can keep building futures together.”
Dear Friends and Partners,
Over the past year, we have experienced the incredible strength and support of our community. From making your voices heard as advocates for housing policy, to showing up at neighborhood events championing affordable homes, to contributing thousands of volunteer hours and generous donations—you have answered the call. Together, we are proving that when neighbors unite, transformation happens.
We began 2025 with a reflective yet joyful community gathering to celebrate the life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter. His example of service lives on in the actions of our supporters every day. Inspired by that spirit, over the year we launched two new home development projects: eight homes in Bolinas and another eight in Belle Haven. These milestones are a testament to what we can achieve when we work hand in hand.
The journey has not been without challenges. Unprecedented construction cost increases and the removal of state funding for home construction have tested us. Yet, your continued support has been vital—and deeply appreciated. Investing in homeownership is transformative. It changes lives for families today and for generations to come. It strengthens communities and builds a foundation for equity and stability.
Looking ahead, we are embracing innovation to deliver on our mission. In a region where land is scarce, we are pioneering acquisition and renovation strategies to create more forever-affordable homes. These efforts ensure a strong pipeline of opportunities and financial resilience, so we can keep building futures together.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in the power of homeownership to transform the lives of our neighbors and our neighborhoods. The multiplier effect of your commitment is real—and it starts with you. Let’s keep building—not just homes, but hope and opportunity—together.
With gratitude and determination,

With our goals of bold growth and community impact at the center, over the past year we have developed and implemented our FY26 Strategic Plan. We are committed to achieving these goals and have laid our foundation for success.

While our tactics are evolving to face the very real affordability challenges in the Bay Area, our mission and vision remain steadfast. We build homes and sustain affordable homeownership opportunities for families in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties. We do this with the vision of a future where homeownership is sustainable, accessible, and equitable for all.
Innovation in community engagement is core to our strategy because of its multiplier effect. Every conversation, every partnership, every insight amplifies our mission and creates ripples of impact that extend far beyond a single home. Together, we’re not only building homes—we’re building stronger, more connected communities.
We know the power of data to help us better understand and address the challenges facing the households we partner with, as well as uncover the positive benefits of homeownership experienced by partner households. That is why we partner with Habitat California on a statewide survey of Habitat affiliates to better uncover actionable insights to inform our work. The quantitative and qualitative data we analyze also uncovers success stories and family milestones to be celebrated. The latest report came out in August 2025, some of the highlights of what we heard from homeowners include:
To create lasting impact in affordable homeownership across our region, we know it takes more than building and preserving homes—it requires bold advocacy. That’s why we’ve strengthened our efforts with the hiring of a Director of Policy & Advocacy, enabling us to reintroduce Habitat Greater San Francisco and our mission to policymakers and partner organizations with renewed energy and clarity.
Over the past year, our Playhouse Build Program has been a cornerstone of volunteer engagement and community connection. Our supporters truly stepped up to make this program thrive—115 playhouses have been built and over $300,000 has been raised. Every playhouse built does more than spark joy for children; it fuels our affordable homeownership mission by generating proceeds that directly support families on their path to prosperity. It’s creativity with purpose, and it’s making a difference.
Vice President of Homeownership and Community Engagement
How would you describe successful community engagement?
My approach is always to develop a feeling of trust, inclusion, transparency, and partnership with the communities we are partnering in.
For Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, we work in partnership with individuals, community and faith-based organizations, volunteers, government agencies, really all stakeholder groups in a community. Our goals are to create trust, brand awareness, and meaningful connections. It’s important in our engagement work that information flows both ways.
Since the Homeowner Advisory Committee (HAC) began, have you seen any changes in the relationships your team has with the homeowners?
It has been a really good sounding board and resource for our post-purchase programming and the wider organization. There’s definitely a stronger connection with the HAC members and a sense of collegiality. The HAC is designed to be homeowner-centered, and we hope to have it homeowner-led in time. Members of the HAC have engaged in advocacy efforts, focus groups, and are leaders in their HOA communities.
Do you have an example of an insight from a community member you have received that led to a change in our programming?
We heard from the community in Bolinas that they wanted more transparency around what the requirements for homeownership with Habitat GSF are. We listened to the feedback and saw it as an opportunity to develop our Homebuyer Readiness Program last year.
What does the future of community-driven programming look like at Habitat GSF?
We’re looking forward to moving our programs forward and bringing more of our community into
our work. This will look like having our volunteers and homeowners at the center of our programming, with partnerships that best support our homeowners. And having more people who are homebuyer-ready at the time of application. I hope with our partnership to create more advocates in our communities who are empowered and have agency to advocate for what is needed in their neighborhood, including access to affordable homeownership.

We’re making exciting progress on several of our upcoming developments! While strict permitting requirements and rising construction costs can make lead times challenging, we’re thrilled to share that progress is happening. Thanks to the persistence and dedication of our team—and the unwavering support of our community—we’re actively advancing pipeline projects that have been in the works over the past year. These homes represent more than construction milestones; they are future foundations for families and communities to thrive.
