San Francisco – November 13, 2023 –  Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco (Habitat Greater San Francisco) received a $90,000 Wells Fargo grant to help build four new homes in San Francisco. This generous grant is part of a larger $190,000 commitment to help build a total of eight new, affordable homes along Amber Drive in the Diamond Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the U.S. The new homes are nearing completion and homeowners are scheduled to move in following a special home dedication ceremony on December 2.

The eight condominiums will be home to eight local families, including 12 children, who will grow up with the stability and security of knowing they have a permanent place to call home. Each family has long-term ties to the city of San Francisco, many having lived and worked here for decades, yet continue to be priced out of market rate homeownership.

“Each year, Wells Fargo has partnered with Habitat Greater San Francisco to help bring affordable homeownership to hardworking families across the Bay,” said Maureen Sedonaen, Chief Executive Officer at Habitat Greater San Francisco. “Our Amber Drive project is a powerful example of what can happen when we all come together for a common goal. It takes dedicated volunteers and supporters, donations big and small, skilled construction crews and more than 500 hours of ‘sweat equity’ from each of our future homeowners to help make the dream of affordable homeownership a reality.”

“For our eight families, the majority of who are people of color who have historically had unequal access to homeownership, there is a tremendous sense of pride in knowing they are building a new future with their own hands. Homeownership not only brings security, improved health and better long-term outcomes, but it also helps build equity which has a lasting impact on families for generations to come.”

With this grant through Wells Fargo Builds, plus their dedicated teams of employees who have volunteered countless hours, Habitat Greater San Francisco is able to expand its reach and fulfill its mission of building more homes and preserving homeownership for more families in the Bay Area.

“We believe a place to ‘call home’ is the foundation for wellness, dignity, and economic opportunity. As The Bank of Doing, Wells Fargo takes action to put people and communities first – using our financial and volunteer resources. We are thrilled to join Habitat Greater San Francisco in their work to create much needed affordable and sustainable homes,” said Wells Fargo Region Bank Executive Christina Pels-Martinez.

Habitat Greater San Francisco is one of more than 230 Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded grant funding nationwide through the 2023 Wells Fargo Builds program to help low-to-moderate income families access affordable homes. This funding is part of a $7.5 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International announced earlier this year through the Wells Fargo Builds program to build and repair more than 350 affordable homes nationwide.
