Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, Inc. (“HGSF,” “Organization,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (“HFHI”) and is considered a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service under HFHI’s group tax exemption. Please note that all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. The Organization’s tax identification number (TIN) is 94-3088881.
HGSF has established this Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) to explain how we collect, use, and share personal information, whether through our website at www.habitatgsf.org (the “Website”), other online channels, in-person events, or any other means (the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to be bound and abide by our Privacy Policy in effect at the time of use. This Policy and your use of the Services is subject to our Terms of Use. Do not access or use the Services if you do not agree with this Policy and the Terms.
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will let you know by appropriate means such as by posting the revised policy on this page with a new “effective date” at the bottom of this Privacy Policy. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will become effective when posted unless indicated otherwise.
Please note that each regional Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States and Canada (collectively the “Habitat Affiliates”) is a separate legal entity, governed by an independent board of directors, executive committee, or other governing body. Collection and processing of your personal information by each Habitat Affiliate is governed by their respective privacy policies, and each organization is solely responsible for its own collection and use of your personal information
1.1. Supporter Activity. We may receive personal information such as your name, email or postal address, social media handle, telephone or mobile number, donation amount or payment details through:
1.1.1. Your voluntary disclosures: during the course of making online or offline donations to HGSF or other Habitat Affiliates, subscribing to our (or a Habitat Affiliate’s) newsletter or blog, filling out a form, volunteering for a project, or registering for an HGSF event.
1.1.2. Communications: between you and us, such as calls, emails, or in-person meetings, or when you communicate with us on HGSF-branded social media pages.
1.1.3. Donation Partners: when a third party, such as a Donor Advised Fund, your employer, another charity or charity donation aggregator, directs a donation to HGSF on your behalf.
1.1.4. Third-party sources: such as social media or other marketing and advertising partners.
1.1.5. Mobile Activity: when you use a mobile device to connect to the Services, we may collect a unique device identifier or other device information.
1.2. Online User Activity. We use third-party analytics tools to help us measure traffic, usage, and other trends by your use of our Website. We may also use third-party cookies or other similar technologies to collect and store other information about your visit to, or use of, our Website and the Services. These tools may capture:
1.2.1. Usage Details about your interaction with our Website (such as the date, time, and length of visits, and frequency of the visits).
1.2.2. Device information including IP address and other details of the device that you use to connect with our Website (such as device type and unique device identifier, operating system, and browser type).
2.1. Essential Purposes. We may use your collected information as we believe necessary or appropriate for certain essential purposes, including:
2.1.1. To comply with the law, and to detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, suspicious or other illegal activities;
2.1.2. To protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, operations, security and/or that of our affiliates, business partners, you or others; and
2.1.3. To allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.
2.1.4. Note that we may also aggregate data we collect on an anonymous basis that does not identify you for any purposes otherwise allowed by applicable law, such as for analysis, marketing, and advertising, as well as improvement of our Website and the Services.
2.2. Supporter Activity. This information may additionally be used for the following business purposes:
2.2.1. To offer, manage, and improve the Services;
2.2.2. To process donations and other payments;
2.2.3. To send periodic communications regarding your donations, our mission, or opportunities to volunteer for, engage with, or support HGSF;
2.2.4. To advertise and promote the Services;
2.2.5. To staff volunteer teams for projects;
2.2.6. To administer surveys and other Website features;
2.2.7. To provide personalized content and fundraising opportunities that you may be interested in; and
2.2.8. To monitor metrics, such as total number of Website visitors and traffic.
2.3. Online User Activity. We may use information collected via cookies to further the various purposes described in this Section. In particular, information collected via cookies is used to understand our user base, advertise our projects, events, and fundraising to you and other interested individuals, monitor the performance of our Website, improve the Website user experience, and to ensure the security of our Website.
We may disclose personal information for the purposes noted above, to the following categories of entities:
3.1. Other Habitat Affiliates and HFHI.
3.2. Our service providers and contractors who provide technology, business, professional, or other such services to us including payment processing, mass mailing support, or event management.
3.3. Our third-party marketing and advertising partners who help us provide you with targeted fundraising or volunteer opportunities we believe may interest you.
3.4. External parties or their affiliates in the event of, or negotiation of, a business merger, acquisition, or other disposition of all or any portion of the Organization.
3.5. External parties (including government agencies), to comply with legal requirements, including, but not limited to, regulatory, court, and law enforcement demands (e.g., subpoenas, court orders, etc.); to prevent and address fraud, security or technical issues; and to respond to an emergency or otherwise to protect the rights, property or security of HGSF, donors, users of the Services, or third-parties.
We keep personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Although we implement reasonable administrative, physical, and technical security measures designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or use, we cannot guarantee that the information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.
5.1. Emails, phone calls, and mailings. If you do not wish to receive mail, email, or phone calls from HGSF please let us know by calling us at (415) 625-1000 or emailing us at [email protected].
5.2. Text Messages. If you have opted-in to receive text messages from us, you can opt-out of receiving text messages from us by replying “STOP” to any text message received.
5.3. Cookies. We use cookies to enhance your browsing experience, to analyze our Website traffic, and deliver targeted advertisements. You can opt-out of certain non-essential tracking cookies used on our website by scrolling to the footer on any page and clicking on Cookie Preferences.

5.4. Social Media. We may obtain information about you through your interactions with our HGSF-branded social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn, depending on your settings or the privacy policies of these social media message services. Our Website may contain links to other websites, services or social media platforms that are owned or operated by other companies (“Third-Party Websites”). Third-Party Websites are not subject to our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the practices employed by any Third-Party Websites or services linked to or from our Website, including the information or content contained within them. Your browsing and interaction on any Third-Party Websites or service, including those that have a link on our Website, are subject to that third-party’s own rules and policies, not ours. By accessing Third-Party Websites you agree that we are not responsible and do not have control over any third-parties that you authorize to access your personal information, which includes your sharing of account credentials with any third-party, or linking your activity to any social media platforms or data aggregators.
