SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 27, 2025) – we are excited to announce our new partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) through the local utility’s Connecting Hometowns program. The two-year collaboration aims to expand access to affordable homeownership solutions for families throughout the Bay Area. Habitat Greater San Francisco is one of five local affiliates selected to receive a $50,000 grant as part of the initial year of the partnership.
Soaring home prices and limited housing supply have made owning a home in California unattainable for many families. As of 2024, the median home price in California was over $800,000 — more than double the national average — and in the Bay Area the situation is even more dire. Only 16% of Californians can afford to purchase a median-priced home.
Habitat Greater San Francisco has been dedicated to building homes and communities across San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo counties for the last 36 years. With the support of volunteers and donors, the organization has helped countless families achieve the dream of homeownership. This $50,000 grant will directly support the organization’s mission to build and preserve affordable homes—offering hardworking families a real pathway to financial security and generational opportunity.
To celebrate the partnership, Habitat Greater San Francisco recently welcomed a team of PG&E volunteers for a day of building and community connection. Volunteers constructed custom playhouses that will be donated to local nonprofits serving children.
Connecting Hometowns launched during National Homeownership Month, a time to reflect on the importance of affordable homeownership in creating stronger, healthier, and more equitable communities. As part of the program, PG&E will provide $500,000 in charitable contributions over two years to support multiple Habitat affiliates across California.
