Long-Time Housing Advocate Sheri T. Joseph Joins Board of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco

New board member brings deep expertise in creating and preserving safe, affordable housing for underserved communities

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (September 18, 2025) – today we announced the election of Sheri T. Joseph to our Board of Directors. Joseph is the executive director and trustee of Tamalpais Pacific, a public benefit corporation based in Marin focused on expanding affordable and supportive housing in the North Bay. She joins the board at a critical time, as the Bay Area faces a historic shortage of affordable housing. With the median home price across the Habitat Greater San Francisco region topping $1.79 million and rising, homeownership is increasingly out of reach for working families.

Joseph also serves as a trustee on the board of Homeward Bound of Marin, the county’s primary provider of homeless shelters and resources for families and individuals, where she has contributed her expertise on the finance and real estate committees. Her decades of experience in housing and homelessness have given her a close view of Habitat Greater San Francisco’s impressive work, impact and leadership.

“Habitat’s mission is about more than building houses — it’s about creating stability, dignity, and opportunity for generations,” said Joseph. “When families can own a safe, affordable home in a thriving community, everything changes. Children do better in school, health outcomes improve, and families begin to build wealth that can alter their trajectory for decades. Habitat’s model shows us that homeownership is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent homelessness and break the cycle of poverty. I am truly honored to be part of such an impressive organization.”

She believes in the life-changing power of stable housing in thriving communities. Habitat for Humanity houses are usually located in good school districts and surrounded by vital support services for residents. These resources can help families live healthier lives and escape from generational poverty.

“Sheri brings a deep commitment to equity and a clear understanding of the life-changing power of affordable homeownership,” said Maureen Sedonaen, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat Greater San Francisco. “At Habitat, we know that when families have the chance to buy a safe, stable home, they not only transform their own lives, but they create better outcomes for their children and future generations. Sheri’s leadership and perspective will be invaluable as we continue working to make the Bay Area a place where all families can thrive.”

Prior to joining Tamalpais Pacific, Joseph practiced business and real estate litigation in San Francisco and San Diego. She received her B.A. from UC Berkeley and her J.D. from UC Law San Francisco. She is also an award winning author. Her debut novel Edge of the Known World was a USA Today Booklist Bestseller and won gold for Best New Voice in Fiction from the Independent Book Publishers Association. She lives in Tiburon, California, with her husband and three children.
