The Origin of Build with Pride
Our affiliate founder, Stephen Jacoby, prompted by a chance encounter with first lady Rosalynn Carter, was determined to found an inclusive affiliate that honored all faiths and welcomed all people regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
We are incredibly proud of the origins of Habitat Greater San Francisco and honor the tremendous vision and determination of our founder with our annual Build with Pride. This event is a special opportunity to partner with the community, and we hope you will join us!
Build with Pride – June 2026
We invite you to join us as a sponsor of Build with Pride in June 2026! Build with Pride is a celebration that brings together our LGBTQIA+ community members and allies to lead the change in addressing the housing crisis. This signature month-long event promotes empowerment, solidarity, and pride and is open to all!
During Pride Month, demonstrate your commitment to your community through an event sponsorship and mobilize your employees with:
- A volunteer build day to refresh and repair Recycled Habitat homes that improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for longtime homeowners
- A playhouse build where volunteers create custom playhouses that will be donated to Habitat GSF families, childcare centers, and local schools

A look back at Build with Pride over the years
Recycled Homes & Playhouse Builds
In 2025, along with Playhouse Builds, Build with Pride volunteers helped revitalized a Recycled Habitat home, giving it a new life for a future family. As our homeowners move forward, these homes are thoughtfully renovated to remain affordable for years to come.
Playhouse Builds
In honor of our core values in June 2024, Habitat GSF welcomed everyone to celebrate the strides made by our LGBTQIA+ and allied community members in making the dream of homeownership a reality for low-income families across the Bay Area!
New Construction & Playhouse Builds
Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco is celebrating our signature Build with Pride month in June of 2023. Together with community members and allied companies we demonstrate our shared values of radical inclusivity by coming together for volunteer days and events that champion affordable homeownership for local families while celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
Amber Drive, San Francisco
This year we hosted our Build with Pride during Pride Month. The community joined together throughout June to help us build new affordable homes right in the heart of San Francisco in Diamond Heights.
Community Gardens
Habitat Greater San Francisco was thrilled to host Build with Pride in September 2021. Our next Build with Pride will take place in June 2022, so please look out for details early next year. Geneva Village
Dykes with Drills joined us for a volunteer build day at the Geneva Village site, where they helped to build the 6 affordable townhomes that are under construction.
Home Preservation
A crew of Build with Pride volunteers joined us to help make critical repairs to a long-time Bay Area resident’s home, helping to stem displacement and keep communities whole.
Habitat Terrace
Build with Pride volunteers worked alongside new Habitat homeowners completing their sweat equity hours, to help build the new affordable homes at Habitat Terrace.
