Partnerships

Building a better world - one house, one family at a time.

This is the spirit of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco that has inspired hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area to get involved - to help make a difference. It started as a grass-roots effort and has become an organized movement dedicated to providing simple, decent, affordable ownership homes for families who lack adequate shelter.

Community partnerships are critical to Habitat Greater San Francisco's affordable ownership housing program. Following are the types of partnerships that are needed:

Corporate

Corporate partnerships help local companies to meet their philanthropic goals, while enabling Habitat Greater San Francisco to build more homes in the community. Some companies are engaged on an ad-hoc basis, often by departments or managers using their own team-building dollars to get involved and support the cause. Others are engaged at the highest corporate levels, making a significant, long-term strategic commitment to Habitat Greater San Francisco. From $100 to $1,000,000, Habitat Greater San Francisco welcomes corporate partnerships at all levels.

Local Government

Partnerships with local cities are vital to our mission at Habitat Greater San Francisco. Cities acquire property for redevelopment, target non-profit developers to help them achieve their affordable housing requirements, and provide the land for free in most cases. When they select Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco for a development, they partner with us to work through the entitlement process and in many cases provide subsidy funding and/or waivers of fees in addition to the free land.

Construction and Developers

Habitat Greater San Francisco partners with construction companies, general contractors, subcontractors, and building material suppliers who generously provide in-kind donations of services, discounted materials and trades on the job (e.g. foundations, plumbing, fire sprinklers, electrical and mechanical) that help reduce construction costs significantly and keep our homes affordable. Housing developers also partner with Habitat Greater San Francisco. They are required by city governments to contribute either money or homes for Below Market Rate (BMR) ownership, and often choose to support Habitat Greater San Francisco's work instead of building the BMR units themselves.
