Community celebrates first Habitat home in Marin

- With scores of community well-wishers looking on, Miguel and Alejandra Garza became the first Habitat for Humanity homeowners in Marin County following more than 15 years of efforts to bring Habitat's affordable housing program to the region.

"Finally being able to provide a home for my family is a dream come true for me," said Miguel after receiving the keys to his Novato home on Father's Day weekend. Read More.

Habitat breaks ground on $15 million development

-- Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco broke ground on its largest and most ambitious development to date: a three-story, $15 million affordable housing condo development built over a podium parking garage that will enable 36 hardworking families in Daly City to realize their dream of homeownership. The development is a cornerstone of the Grand Boulevard Initiative, exemplifying the revitalization that is underway along El Camino Real to provide compact, urban design and construction in a pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented corridor. HABITAT BRINGS NEW HOMEOWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO BAYVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD

-- At a dedication event celebrating seven new homeowners in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco announced a new initiative to help more local families take advantage of homeownership opportunities. Habitat introduced the Homebuyer Readiness Program, offering workshops on debt reduction, credit repair, and money management to help remove obstacles and better prepare families with low incomes for homeownership. 7555 Mission Street Development wins Grand Boulevard Award

– The City of Daly City, along with Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, has received the Grand Boulevard Award for Habitat’s new development at 7555 Mission Street in Daly City. At a ceremony hosted by SAMCEDA and Joint Venture Silicon Valley Network at the Mountain View City Hall, the development was recognized for exemplifying the guiding principles of the Grand Boulevard Initiative (GBI). HABITAT DEDICATES TWO HOMES IN MENLO PARK

-- Eleven months after the launch of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco's Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP), Habitat dedicated two more NRP homes in Menlo Park where renovations were recently completed. New homeowners Maria and Gloria, who completed 500 hours of sweat equity working on the homes along-side hundreds of community volunteers, received the keys to their homes and celebrated a future of new opportunities through homeownership. HABITAT TEAMS WITH COLDWELL BANKER RESIDENTIAL BROKERAGE

LOCAL BANKS SUPPORT HABITAT

-- Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco today announced growing support from the banking community for its Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP), with three local banks stepping up to provide critical funding to acquire and rehabilitate blighted bank-owned homes in communities hard hit by the foreclosure crisis. Bank of America, Federal Home Loan Bank San Francisco and Wells Fargo will contribute financial support totaling nearly $275,000, helping Habitat to revitalize neighborhoods that have been destabilized by home foreclosures.
