Who We Are
Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International that partners with hardworking families, community volunteers and donors, to build affordable ownership homes in Marin, San Francisco and on the Peninsula. Through the Habitat for Humanity program, families working in service, manufacturing, retail and other sectors are able to live near their jobs in decent, safe, permanent homes.
In 20 years, we have built nearly 150 homes in the community. Currently, 12 homes are under construction at Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, including seven homes in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, two homes on Parkview Avenue in Daly City, and three homes that are being rehabilitated as part of Habitat's new
Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
Our Families
Habitat Greater San Francisco provides a hand-up, not a hand-out for families in desperate need of improved living conditions. Our homeowners invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" to help build their own homes as well as additional time for homeowner workshops. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable, zero interest mortgages.
For Habitat Greater San Francisco families, homeownership means more than just having a roof over their heads. Our program allows families the opportunity to live in the cities where they work, create a better future for their children and ultimately break the cycle of poverty through affordable homeownership.
Our Mission
Habitat Greater San Francisco is committed to making the dream of homeownership a reality for families with low incomes-a virtually unattainable dream for the majority of residents in San Francisco, Marin and the Peninsula.
Sharing in the joy of our Habitat families when they receive the keys to their new homes reaffirms our mission and deep desire to help more families find new hope for a better life.
The effects of the Habitat Greater San Francisco program reach beyond our homeowners. As our families invest their time, energy and resources into their new homes, the surrounding neighbors experience a renewed sense of stability, goodwill and neighborhood pride. Habitat homeowners strengthen the social and financial fabric of our community through lower neighborhood crime rates, higher property values and a secure workforce.
